1932 Hariri Transcriptions

An ongoing transcription project of sections of the 1932 archival recordings, involving various partners under the direction of Martin Stokes. One is devoted to the Darwish al-Hariri Muwashahat and Adwar recordings (preliminary example attached, Bil-Nahawand el-Kabir). These are intended both as a scholarly point of reference and as a resource for performing musicians; they will eventually be interactive and all available for download.

Most of this is not commonly performed today. But the ensemble Oxford Maqam has been using these recordings and transcriptions to bring this repertoire back into performance practice.
